Michael James Rowland with the Crystal Globe for Special Jury Prize at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival

Lucky Miles, the Australian comedy which won the Audience Award for Best Film at the 2007 Sydney Film Festival (State Theatre program) has been awarded the prestigious Special Jury Prize at the Czech Republic’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Based on a collection of true stories, and directed by first time filmmaker, Michael James Rowland, Lucky Miles is a bittersweet comedy about a group of asylum seekers being abandoned on the West Australian coast by people smugglers and their struggle to find the paradise they expected. Sneak previews of Lucky Miles will preceed this weekend, before it releases nationally on July 19
